JKN is mandatory, where employees should be registered by 1 January 2015 and by 1 January 2019 for others categories of the population.
The JKN covers comprehensive benefits, from cheap to expensive medical intervention such as dialysis and cancer therapies, but should follow the required procedure using primary health facility, mostly at primary public health centres.
Formal employees will be enrolled in the JKN by their employers. However, those working in the informal sector should register themselves. The enrollment procedure is as follows:
1. Open a bank account in one of the designated banks (Bank Mandiri, BRI or BNI), at the closest branch to the address shown on your/your employee KTP (Indonesian national identity card).
2. Register at the closest BPJS office or online at www.bpjs-kesehatan.go.id. The following documents are required:
- Completed registration form
- Copy of KTP (Indonesian National ID card)
- Copy of Kartu Keluarga (KK- family card)
- 2 Photos: 3 x 4 cm for each member of the family
4. First monthly contribution should be paid on the day of the registration by choosing the level of contribution corresponding to the class a member will get in case of hospitalization:
- First class: Rp 59,500 / member
- Second class: Rp 42,500 / member
- Third Class: Rp 25,500 / member
